Barcelona, Spain, Mobile World Congress, February 27, 2012 – Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of 4G broadband wireless access networks, introduced today their newest LTE-Advanced product family to help carriers address the explosive growth in mobile broadband demand.

The Company’s newest suite of products incorporates innovative LTE-Advanced features to deliver the highest network spectral efficiency with a lower cost per bit to carriers, enabling significant increases of throughput to consumers and driving better service experiences.

The comprehensive product portfolio will be on display this week at the Mobile World Congress taking place in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 to March 1, 2012 in the Airspan booth in Hall 1, #C53.

The new products offer Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions and are all designed for low-cost operation, quick deployment and maximized capacity and coverage. In addition to LTE-Advanced, the products also combine WiMAX functionality, offering diversity and flexibility to network operators.

Many carriers are already making strides in replacing traditional 3G networks. Airspan expects to play a strong role in the adoption of 4G technology with a comprehensive suite of products including high-power macro, cost-optimized micro and easy-to-deploy with integrated wireless backhaul pico base stations. Together, these products embody features which are essential for LTE-Advanced performance such as:

Multi-Carrier / Carrier Aggregation (CA) capabilities and multi radio head support
1 Gbps plus capacity per base station
LTE-Advanced Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) feature sets
Advanced MIMO Antenna Technologies
Two of the newest additions to the product portfolio are the Air4G-L44 and the Air4Gp-WL44 eNodeB models. The Air4G-L44 is the most compact, powerful macro base stations on the market, while the Air4Gp-WL44 is an extremely cost-optimized pico base station which supports both WiMAX and LTE platforms. Some of the technical highlights are:

Air4G-L44

  • Macro eNodeB with up to 2×43 dBm or 4×40 dBm transmitters
  • Integrated radios with support for 2 Remote Radio Head (RRH) per carrier aggregated data pipe
  • Full 20 MHz FDD and LTE channel support
  • Extremely efficient power scheme utilizing optimized Doherty technology

Air4Gp-WL44

  • Pico eNodeB with up to 4 x 22 dBm transmitters
  • Very small form factor
  • Integrated antenna
  • Supports dual sector operation
  • Any combination of WiMAX and LTE each with 2×2 MIMO
  • Available in licensed and unlicensed bands

These products join an already impressive portfolio which includes the ground-breaking AirSynergy, the world’s first fully featured HetNet pico base station. It is small, all-outdoor and designed to be deployed on utility/light poles and offers integrated, self-provisioning, small cell wireless backhaul. Additionally, Airspan offers Wi-Fi solutions offering Wi-Fi data offload from the 4G cells, as well as seamless connectivity solutions for a variety of industrial 4G vertical markets.

“Airspan’s LTE offering meets the lower cost, higher-performance, improved efficiency and enhanced customer experience goals being set by carriers to help them compete successfully in today’s high-demand connectivity environment,” commented Amit Ancikovsky, President of Products and Sales. “The Mobile World Congress provides a great forum for us to demonstrate our products’ innovative and outstanding capabilities.”

“We are very excited by our overall LTE product offering,” commented Paul Senior, Chief Technical Officer at Airspan Networks. “We have integrated some of the most forward-thinking advancements into our technology and are confident that our system’s performance will meet, or exceed, our customers’ expectations. We offer the perfect combination of equipment to meet the coverage and traffic demands of the network, with HetNet support to ensure that the throughput is delivered where it is needed most whether at a macro cell’s edge or at a high-density customer area. In addition, our equipment is fully interoperable with LTE UEs offered by third-party suppliers.”
