BT is seeking a talented principal engineer who can drive the technical specification and design of LTEⁱ small cell products for our consumer Customer Premises Equipment. You will be implementing BT’s mobility strategy alongside the team of engineers responsible for delivering BT’s Home Hub and our large portfolio of Home Connectivity products.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate significant experience in the small cells, device management, handset and EPCⁱ areas. In addition they will have strong engineering and communication skills and a proven track record in delivery of 3G or LTE small cell products. The role involves acting as a key point of contact and LTE subject matter expert to consumer product management and both our own and interfacing technical teams. The candidate must also have the ability to succinctly and confidently present deep technical information to BT senior management.

Key Skills

Architecture and Engineering
proven experience of 3G or LTE small cell technical design, specification and delivery.
Excellent understanding of small cell hardware and software architecture and the constraints in building a small cell product.
Excellent understanding of device management technologies and protocols, especially TR-069, TR-196.
Deep understanding of 3G and LTE standards, especially 3GPPⁱ.
Good understanding of the LTE Evolved Packetⁱ Core and RAN management patterns.
Ability to drive technical issues to resolution through a complex supply chain that may involve many vendors.
Vendor Engagement
Understanding of the vendor ecosystem for consumer CPE and small cells with an appreciation for LTE chipset availability, limitations and commercial issues.
Ability to work with vendors to understand product offerings and drive supplier roadmaps.
Previous experience in leading RFP and ITT processes for consumer CPE.
Testing and Test Strategy
Track record in defining and undertaking test strategy for consumer CPE.
Experience in building automated small cell test environments.
Communications
Ability to succinctly define and communicate small cell strategy to senior leaders within BT.
Ability to lead, mentor and influence teams.

Qualifications
Likely to have relevant, contemporary and industry recognised qualifications appropriate to the role (e.g. Chartered Engineer status etc.)
Engineering/science degree
