The Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard for mobile broadband includes multi-antenna transmission modes that improve performance in terms of coverage, spectral efficiency and peak throughput.

To fully exploit the potential of these techniques, the antenna system at the LTE base station, or eNodeB (eNB), and in the user equipment (UE) must be designed with the intended performance profile in mind. Here Ericsson presents a comparison of the performance of several multi-antenna setups in field trials.
