Russia has awarded 4G frequencies to four telecom operators, Reuters reported today. The four operators are VimpelCom, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), Rostelecom and MegaFon. Other bidders that participated in the spectrum auction, included TTK, Summa Telecom and Tele2 Russia.

Russian operators MegaFon and Rostelecom have successfully tested LTE network in Sochi.

MegaFon and Rostelecom have successfully tested their Fourth Generation LTE network close to the major Sochi 2014 site, Roza Khutor.

Russian operator Rostelecom plans to launch the LTE test network in Penza by the end of August.

Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced that Russian Wimax operator Scartel and national operator Rostelecom can use their existing radio frequencies for deploying LTE networks.

Russian long-distance operator Rostelecom has applied to the State Commission for Radio Frequencies for construction of LTE networks in Sochi, reports Vedomosti. 

March 15, 2010 - According to a report by Reuters, long-distance operator Rostelecom has won permit to build a wireless broadband access network covering a third of the Russian population .
