Does the spec state that there has to be a unique IP address for each different interface type on a functional node.
So for instance on a combined GSN/SWG/PWG box, would there be different IP address assignments for the different interfaces S1U,S8i,S11 etc... or can it also be just one IP address
There could be multiple IP
There could be multiple IP address per box,
36.414: There may be one or several IP addresses in the eNB and in the EPCi. The packet processing function in the EPC shall send downstream packets of a given E-RABi to the eNB IP address (received in S1-APi) associated to that particular E-RAB. The packet processing function in the eNB shall send upstream packets of a given E-RAB to the EPC IP address (received in S1i-AP) associated to that particular E-RAB.
Regarding other interfaces, yes they could use different IPs. One IP for all interface may be good for lab purpose but personally I do not expect it in a production box.
