Altair Semiconductor Launches TD-LTE Chipset Optimized For Indian Market
HOD HASHARON, Israel – May 7, 2012 – Altair Semiconductor (http://www.altair-semi.com), a leading developer of ultra-low power, small footprint and high performance 4G LTE chipsets, today announced that it has released a cost and feature-optimized chipset tailored for the Indian TD-LTE market, which is expected to become one of the fastest-growing LTE markets in the world.
The chipset, dubbed “Hornet”, is the result of several years of working very closely with leading carriers in India, and was developed based on the stringent cost and performance requirements of the Indian wireless market.
“The combination of the explosive growth expected in India’s broadband market, together with the challenging cost requirements to enable this growth, is very unique compared to other global markets,” said Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Altair. “We believe we are spot on with this new and optimized chipset in terms of defining the precise set of features at the right cost point to enable mass adoption of LTE, connecting millions of people to the Internet.”
Altair is a market leader in the global TD-LTE industry. Altair-based products are commercially deployed in Brazil and the Company has completed advanced pre-commercial field trials with carriers around the world, including Softbank in Japan, China Mobile and leading carriers in India. Altair’s TD-LTE solution is the first to have demonstrated Category 4 throughputs publically in China and Japan.
“We have made great progress since entering the Indian market,” said Salaj Sinha, General Manager, Marketing and Sales at Altair India. “We will soon start shipping commercial volume into the local market, and expect the ‘Hornet’ chipset to further differentiate our offering and help stimulate the ecosystem.”
