CellMax Technologies Nominated for an LTE Award for its Ultra-High Efficiency Antennas

in press-release, CellMax, LTE

[Stockholm, Sweden, April 19, 2012.] CellMax Technologies, a specialist provider of advanced ultra-high efficiency base station antennas, has been nominated for a prestigious LTE Award recognising “achievements made by companies in the LTE industry”.

CellMax Technologies was shortlisted for an LTE Award in the category “Best LTE RAN Product” for its range of ultra-high efficiency base station antennas. This award recognises ”Radio Access Network elements that are exceptional in their area, and that contribute to making LTE more attractive for operators to deploy, and contribute to the success of a commercial LTE deployment”.

LTE is short for Long Term Evolution, an international standard and an IP based 4G technology for wireless data transmission enabling significantly faster data rates for both uploading and downloading.

The winners will be announced on May 23 at the LTE World Summit 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. The other nominees are Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei Technologies, Nokia Siemens Networks, Samsung Electronics and ZTE Corporation.

CellMax’s revolutionary antenna technology virtually eliminate power losses within the antenna, leading to a dramatic improvement in the base stations’ transmission capacity. With higher signal strength, mobile operators can achieve a significant increase in geographical area coverage, improved indoor penetration, increased traffic, improved data throughput and reduced production costs per call – all without any increase in power consumption.

26-fold increase in mobile data traffic expected

Increased transmission capacity is crucial for mobile operators to cope with a 150 per cent annual increase in mobile data traffic in the world’s mobile networks. This increase in data traffic is driven by the emergence and use of smartphones, apps and videos. Mobile data traffic is expected to increase 26-fold between 2010 and 2015. Operators’ network equipment need to be optimized and upgraded to handle this rapid and significant increase in traffic.

This development has put new industry focus on base station antennas, previously regarded a network commodity. New ultra-high efficiency antennas are very inexpensive in the context of network infrastructure, and easy to deploy or swap. The positive effects on transmission and improved customer experience are immediate and the payback period can often be counted in mere days.

CellMax is one of Sweden’s and Europe’s fastest growing technology companies. The company has its headquarters in Kista, a world-leading Swedish ICT cluster, where it will soon inaugurate its new antenna laboratory.
