China Spectrum Regulators Visit Huawei Innovation Lab for LTE TDD 3.5GHz Solutions
[Shenzhen, China, October 28, 2013]: Representatives from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which sets policies for mobile broadband spectrum regulation in China, recently toured a Huawei innovation lab for LTE TDD 3.5GHz solutions. While touring the facilities, the attending MIIT representatives stressed the various advantages the 3.5GHz spectrum band has for meeting future challenges of unprecedented growth in mobile network traffic. They also commented on how LTE TDD is the most appropriate technology for utilizing this band.
The past year has seen a number of milestones for the global growth of LTE TDD on the 3.5GHz band. In May 2013, the European Electronic Communications Committee’ s PT1 meeting announced it preferred using LTE TDD technologies to build networks on the 3.5GHz band. In August 2013, a 3.5GHz GTI Summit was successfully held in Tokyo, during which Huawei successfully demonstrated quad-20MHz carrier aggregation and 4×4 MIMO multiple antenna technology. The demo was held in a dense urban part of Japan on a trial LTE TDD 3.5GHz network; the technology allowed a maximum data rate of 770 Mb/s and an average data rate of more than 500 Mb/s.
Yu Quan, Chief Strategy Officer for Huawei Wireless, said of the visit: "The industry chain for LTE TDD 3.5GHz solutions has matured greatly. Global chipset manufactures have launched or will launch supporting chipsets, and the number of commercially available devices worldwide has nearly reached 20. There are now ten LTE TDD 3.5GHz networks right now in the world, either under deployment or already launched, and progress has been much faster than we expected."
