Shenzhen, China , 17, November, 2011: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, was honored with two awards at the LTE North America 2011 conference that took place in Dallas, Texas, on November 8.

The company received awards for "Best Contribution to R&D (research and development) for LTE" and "Best Contribution to LTE Standards". Huawei's work in LTE standards and R&D has gained increasing recognition in recent years. In 2010, the company received two LTE Innovation and Commercialization Awards at the LTE World Summit and the "Best Contribution to LTE R&D" Award at LTE North America. These awards underscore Huawei's leadership in the LTE industry and in standardization efforts.

The "Best Contribution to LTE Standards" award was presented to Dr. Xiang (Steven) Chen in recognition of his considerable work to drive LTE and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) forward. The award also recognizes the extensive body of work done by the Huawei North American Wireless Standardization and Research Team to enable LTE technology in North America. The Huawei North American Wireless Standardization and Research team has been working tirelessly to enable LTE technology since 2005. As part of that team, Dr. Chen, Vice-chairman of 3GPP TSG (Technical Specifications Group) RAN (Radio Access Network) WG (Working Group) 4, has worked extensively with the carrier community worldwide to facilitate the adoption of LTE. Dr. Chen has made many contributions to the core standards in the areas of LTE and LTE-A coexistence, LTE-A carrier aggregation, multi-standard radio, small cells for LTE, AAS (Adaptive Antenna System) as well as UL-MIMO (Uplink - Multiple Input Multiple Output).

Huawei's commitment to R&D includes eight R&D centers that have been established in the United States and Canada. The depth of research emerging from these centers has enabled Huawei to generate a number of industry firsts including: the first SingleSON solution, the first LTE TDD (Time Division Duplexing)/FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) convergence commercial network, and the first LTE TDD/FDD dual mode commercial terminal. Due to this extensive R&D, the industry as a whole has benefited from Huawei's LTE achievements.

As of Q3 2011, Huawei has submitted 7900+ LTE/EPC (Evolved Packet Core) proposals to 3GPP, including more than 230 approved proposals of LTE Core Specification (RAN1-RAN3). Since 2010, Huawei continues to rank No. 1 for contributions to LTE standards according to ABI Research. According to the latest Evolution to LTE Report released in September 2011 by GSA (the Global mobile Supplier Association), there are 35 commercial LTE networks launched globally and 18 of them are using Huawei's SingleRAN LTE solution.

Weimin Ying, President of GSM& UMTS & LTE Network, Huawei stated: "Huawei is dedicated to advancements in LTE research and technology innovation. We will continue to meet subscriber's requirements through cooperation with our global operators. We have the confidence to be the best partner of our customers and drive LTE industry development through Huawei's solid technical ability. These awards recognize Huawei's contributions to LTE R&D standards and consolidate our global leadership in commercial LTE."
