NSN validates evolved packet core gateway with Spirent
Espoo, Finland and Sunnyvale, Calif – October 26, 2010 — Nokia Siemens Networks has selected Spirent Communications to validate the performance of its Evolved Packet Core (EPC) gateway Flexi NG, a solution that will play a key role in next-generation wireless network deployments. With the market leading Spirent Landslide, Nokia Siemens Networks is able to verify the performance of its EPC solutions, while reducing the cost and time associated with bringing them to the market.
“Spirent’s test equipment has helped us verify our EPC solutions to deliver on our promise of profitable, high-performance and reliable networks to our customers,” said Petri Pöyhönen, head of Converged Internet Connectivity business line at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We evaluate IP-based end-to-end networking solutions in our ResIP Center, and trust Spirent’s testing solutions for efficient verification of multiple mobile technologies simultaneously. Spirent’s integrated test methodologies and intelligent results allow our engineers to validate the performance of Nokia Siemens Networks’ EPC solution in high-scale mobility scenarios.”
Nokia Siemens Networks is using Spirent Landslide to assess the scale and data performance of its EPC gateway against complex mobility and real-world traffic scenarios to ensure successful live network operations. Spirent Landslide is a comprehensive end-to-end platform that emulates millions of 2G, 3G and LTE mobile data subscribers, simultaneously accessing the wireless network, using various access models. It emulates all key wireless network elements and combines highly scalable control plane and application data to provide a real-world emulation of millions of mobile nodes in various stages of activation, deactivation, and hand-off between cells.
“We have been working closely with Nokia Siemens Networks and have successfully verified Flexi NG’s 120 Gbps throughput capacity,” said Jeff Schmitz, vice president, Networks & Applications group at Spirent Communications. “As a provider of EPC test equipment to Nokia Siemens Networks, Spirent is proud to play a critical role in helping the company overcome the complexity of network performance and interoperability issues.”
Flexi NG is a carrier-class gateway for mobile broadband networks and is designed to play a key role in next-generation wireless system deployments. Flexi NG can be deployed as the Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) for HSPA networks, and serves as the Serving and PDN Gateway for LTE networks. Flexi NG provides unique flexibility with 4D scaling capabilities that help operators prepare for mobile broadband growth in four dimensions: data throughput handling to accommodate data traffic explosion, signaling capacity to deal with smart devices, large number of data sessions for multiple data connections per subscriber and service intelligence for operators’ revenue and resource optimization.
