Radisys’ End-to-End LTE Solution Powers BTI Wireless’ Upgrade of China Mobile’s Network to 4G
HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. – February 25, 2014 – Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced that BTI Wireless, the leader in TD-FEMTO end-to-end solutions providing 3G and 4G Smallcell and Gateway System products, has selected Radisys’ Trillium® software for deployment of an advanced LTE-TDD (Long-Term Evolution Time-Division Duplex) solution for China Mobile. BTI Wireless will leverage Radisys’ end-to-end LTE solutions, including Trillium TOTALeNodeB™ software and protocol stacks and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) ATCA platforms to provide dual-mode TD-SCDMA and LTE-TDD small cells and gateways, achieving successful circuit switched (CS) fallback and a seamless 3G to 4G migration path for China Mobile.
Driven by mobile operators’ ARPU generation and consumers’ demands for mobile broadband applications, the transition to LTE-TDD is gaining momentum in China as operators seek to augment network capacity and coverage in dense urban areas. BTI Wireless’ deployment of Radisys’ LTE-TDD small cell solution and gateway will help China Mobile overcome the coverage challenges associated with increasing traffic volumes and improve the CS fallback services, strengthen signal quality and optimize bandwidth for a high-quality end user experience.
“A proven leader in delivering end-to-end LTE solutions, Radisys is the obvious choice of partner to enable our customers’ LTE network deployments,” said Anju Day, general manager of Smallcell BU, BTI Wireless. “We’re already long-time customers of its ATCA platforms and leveraging its Trillium protocol stacks and TOTALeNodeB small cell software will allow us to offer China Mobile a simplified, single-supplier migration to 4G. The rapidly increasing demand for bandwidth and signal quality increases the urgency of utilizing the end-to-end efficiency that Radisys brings to the table.”
BTI Wireless will begin LTE-TDD network trial deployments next quarter in the Chinese market, and will also deploy LTE-FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) in markets outside of China. LTE-TDD leverages unpaired spectrum allowing downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) traffic to travel in both directions on the same frequency band, while LTE-FDD uses paired spectrum to allocate one frequency band for upload and one for download. Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB software supports both FDD and TDD deployments, delivering a comprehensive LTE solution that can easily scale from small to large deployments.
“This customer win signifies another key success for our solutions in the Chinese LTE-TDD market and further substantiates our position as a global leader in LTE,” said Todd Mersch, general manager, Software and Solutions, Radisys. “Not only do we supply award-winning small cell software, but our delivery of the gateway software allows our customers to extend to the core, providing a true one-stop, end-to-end LTE solution.”
