ZTE Selects Freescale’s QorIQ Qonverge Small Cell Technology for TD-LTE Deployment
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2013-- ZTE Corporation, a top global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has selected Freescale’s QorIQ Qonverge BSC9132 “base station-on-chip” product to power one of the first ever commercial deployments based on the LTE standards. The Freescale solution will provide embedded intelligence for a new line of femtocell products to be deployed later this year.
TD-LTE is a 4G wireless standard designated by several leading service providers for broad deployment throughout China, Japan and other major markets around the world. TD-LTE technology requires advanced silicon and software solutions to enable the ultra high performance that service providers and end-users expect.
“ZTE is playing a pivotal role in the build-out of LTE networks across global 4G markets,” said Zhang Shizhuang, TDD product director for ZTE. “The performance, energy efficiency and scalability of Freescale’s proven QorIQ Qonverge platform allow us to deliver compelling and highly differentiated products designed to establish an early leadership position in LTE solutions.”
QorIQ Qonverge base station-on-chip products are based on a common architecture and integrate communications processing, digital signal processing and wireless acceleration technologies into a single system-on-chip in various configurations optimized for next-generation femtocell, metrocell and macrocell base stations. Advanced process technology and exceptional integration allow the convergence on a single device of multiple functions traditionally performed on separate FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs and processors. This integration reduces the part count, power consumption, cost and footprint for base stations. Having a common, scalable architecture spanning from femtocells to macrocells enables optimized R&D investments and software reuse.
“This project continues the successful track record that ZTE and Freescale have established in collaborating to create world-class wireless infrastructure solutions,” said Tareq Bustami, vice president of product management for Freescale’s Digital Networking business. “As the demand continues to grow worldwide for additional bandwidth, Freescale is pleased to work with ZTE to help deliver on the compelling promise of 4G LTE technology.”
