  • Sunrise and Huawei demonstrated  5G performance with download data throughput of 3.28 Gbit/s in the 3.5 GHz (band 42) frequency band at the 5G lab at Sunrise headquarters in Zurich Oerlikon. The operator plans to use the same configuration from 2020.

  • Verizon has selected Ericsson to provide networking equipment for their commercial 5G launch. Verizon will deploy the pre-standard 5G commercial radio network and the 5G Core network in select markets in second half of 2018.

  • Singtel and Ericsson have achieved a peak speed of 1.1 Gbps in a joint trial of a new configuration of Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technology. Conducted in a Singtel laboratory, the trial delivered speeds that breached the 1 Gbps barrier by combining several key LTE technologies including 256 QAM, 4x4 MIMO

  • T-Mobile and Ericsson have achieved speeds of 1.1 Gbps using 12-layer Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technology, companies announced today.

    This LAA technology builds upon operator’s deployments of 4x4 MIMO and 256 QAM and will give its customers even greater access to near gigabit speeds in 2018, said Neville Ray, Chief Technology Officer for T-Mobile.

  • AT&T has announced the launch of 5G Evolution in parts of Minneapolis in the coming months. As part of 5G Evolution, the operator will upgrade the network that includes LTE Advanced features like 256 QAM, 4x4 MIMO, and 3-way carrier aggregation.

  • UK's operator EE has showcased 2.8Gbps download speeds across an end-to-end 5G test network in its UK mobile lab. The test was carried out in partnership with Huawei and linked the fully virtualized 5G core to the 64x64 Massive MIMO active antenna unit broadcasting 5G New Radio.

  • SK Telecom has completed the deployment of LTE Cat-M1 technology for IoT applications on commercial LTE base stations in collaboration with Ericsson and Qualcomm. LTE Cat-M1 is expected to lower manufacturing costs of IoT devices as its communications modules are much cost-effective than their counterparts for LTE-M, bringing more companies into an ecosystem for IoT business.

  • T-Mobile more than doubles its LTE Advanced footprint to 920+ markets across USA. In addition, the operator announced Gigabit Class LTE readiness with a combination of three speed-boosting technologies carrier aggregation, 4X4 MIMO and 256 QAM that is available in 430 of those markets.

  • Vodafone is trialing 5G  in partnership with Huawei and has achieved the first 5G data connection in Italy. The test utilized a radio base station using Massive MIMO technology. During the test, download speeds of more than 2.7 Gigabits per second were observed, with a latency of just over a millisecond.
