Apple Introduces iPad Air 2 with More LTE Bands

Apple has announced 6.1 mm thin iPad Air 2 with weight less than a pound. iPad Air 2 features an improved Retina display with anti-reflective coating and is available in gold, silver and space gray. The new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 also offer Touch ID and Apple Pay.

IHS iSuppli: new iPad costs more to produce than iPad 2

According to IHS iSuppli, the new iPad is more expensive to produce than the iPad 2 at the time of product launch, even though the retail price points are the same. The 32GB LTE model’s bill of materials (BOM) is nearly 9 percent higher than an iPad 2 equipped with 32GB and 3G wireless, which carried a cost of approximately $335 at the time of product launch.

The new iPad has a 4G LTEⁱ radio, a lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts up to 10 hours, a new dual core Apple A5X processor and VGA front-facing and 1080p rear-facing cameras designed for FaceTime video calling. The device boasts a QXGA (2048x1536) display, 4 times the resolution of the iPad 2.
