X2 Interface in LTE

Hi Friends,
The X2i interface enables eNodeBs de to communicate directly between each other whitch is good for Interference management (especially in HetNets) and seamless HandOver. I read that it is a logical interface not hard one. So I want to understand how it is done softly and whitch protocol is used? Do someone have an idea about this?
Thanks in advance.
Both X2i & S1i are logical
Both X2i & S1i are logical interface i.e. they do not need to be connected directly with one (physical)cable. As you can read from 3GPPi spec it runs over IP, so even though you see X2 interface as a direct connection from one eNB to another eNB but in real case it might be going to same backhaul as S1.
Hope it helps.
