Guard Period. A time period used to prevent overlap between two different signals. It may consist of a transmission gap or be filled with a signal whose correct reception is not essential. In LTE half-duplex Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) operation, a guard period is created by the UE by not receiving the last part of a downlink subframe immediately preceding an uplink subframe from the same UE. In Time Division Duplex (TDD) or half-duplex FDD systems, a guard period is used to prevent overlap between transmission and
reception.
