AirHop Communications and Cavium Sign Commercial Agreement to Integrate AirHop’s eSONTM Software with Cavium’s LTE Small Cell “BaseStation-on-a-Chip” Family
Mobile World Congress – Barcelona (February 21, 2013) – AirHop Communications, a leading provider of advanced Radio Access Network (RAN) software solutions, announced it has been selected to integrate its eSON™ (Self-Organizing Networks) software with Cavium’s LTE Small Cell OCTEON Fusion® “BaseStation-on-a-Chip” family of products.
Wireless operators face challenges in deploying small cells and heterogeneous networks (HetNets), including the need for intelligent self-configuration to reduce OPEX, and interference management to avoid congestion and capacity loss. AirHop’s eSONTM is the solution for wireless operators to achieve the desired capacity gain and improved user experiences. By continuously monitoring and optimizing the small cell network at intervals as small as hundreds of milliseconds, eSONTM increases the total network data throughput by 10-40% and per cell edge user data throughput by 10-30%. AirHop’s eSONTM software can be flexibly deployed in fully-distributed, centralized or hybrid architectures.
Cavium’s OCTEON Fusion processors provide industry-leading LTE small cell performance while supporting up to 128 simultaneous users. Currently, in volume commercial deployment, Cavium offers a complete manufacturable small cell reference design for the OCTEON Fusion family, which includes hardware design files, as well as integrated, royalty-free L1-L3 LTE software.
“Cavium is enabling a vibrant solution ecosystem that helps accelerate time-to-market for a range of small cell solutions based on OCTEON Fusion products,” said Raj Singh, general manager of Cavium’s Wireless Broadband Group. “The availability of AirHop’s eSONTM for our OCTEON Fusion reference design allows us to offer a verified, real time optimization capability for multi-cell environments.”
“We are very pleased to partner with Cavium, a leader in LTE small cell base station processors, to provide a complete 4G small cell solution designed to meet all the deployment challenges faced by mobile operators today,” said Yan Hui, co-founder and CEO of AirHop. “AirHop’s advanced RAN software embedded in Cavium’s complete LTE eNodeB reference kit, combined with AirHop’s cloud SON Server enables operators to manage and optimize HetNet deployments.”
