Gemtek Teams with Ubiquisys for Intelligent Femtocell and Small Cell Range
Swindon, UK and Hsinchu, Taiwan: 13 July 2011 – Ubiquisys, the developer of intelligent 3G/LTE small cells, and Gemtek, the world-leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced that Gemtek will design and manufacture a new range of intelligent femtocell and small cell products using the Ubiquisys Femto-Engine system.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gemtek will use the Ubiquisys Femto-Engine reference design and intelligent cell software to develop a new range of residential and enterprise femtocell-integrated products, plus public-space small-cell hotspots.
Gemtek is the world-leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, and is already one of the world’s leading femtocell manufacturers. With core competency in RF/Microwave design, software engineering and manufacturing excellence, Gemtek also has strong strategic alliances with the worldwide leading technology pioneers as their Alpha site.
Ubiquisys intelligent cell software is commercially proven to provide a range of unique benefits for end users and operators. In residential femtocells, its continuous self-adapting behaviour eliminates interference problems and ensures a high quality user experience. In enterprise deployments it enables femtocells to autonomously create a self-organising network, taking the complexity and cost out of providing seamless indoor coverage for any size and shape of business space. For public space capacity hotspots, Ubiquisys enables low-cost installation and operation, plus the ability to deploy at very high density to provide maximum data capacity.
“The rapid growth of consumer femtocells and public small cell hotspots demands new levels of device innovation,” said Randy Hsu, CTO Gemtek. “The Ubiquisys Femto-Engine model enables us to leverage our wireless broadband expertise to develop innovative new intelligent cells for our customers."
“Intelligent cells transform the mobile user experience and change the economics of networks at the same time,” said Will Franks, CTO and founder, Ubiquisys. “We’re delighted to be working with Gemtek, a recognised leader in wireless broadband and a volume provider of femtocells.”
