Mosaic Telecom Launches Home Cell Product with Ubiquisys AWS Femtocells
Swindon, UK - 17th February 2012 - Mosaic Telecom, the regional US operator serving rural Wisconsin, is now providing its customers with femtocells based on the 3GPP Release 9 open standard. The Mosaic Home Cell is provided by Ubiquisys, the developer of 3G and LTE small cells, as part of a Nokia Siemens Networks femtocell solution. Mosaic Telecom is the first operator to deploy femtocells in AWS spectrum (UMTS Band IV). After three successive vendors were unable to provide a solution, Ubiquisys stepped-in and delivered.
One of the benefits of an open standards solution is that it enables operators to choose core network gateway and femtocell access points independently. This 'cutting of the umbilical cord' is helping the femtocell industry to mature by allowing operators to select a range of femtocell devices from a mix of vendors, and enable new entrants to penetrate the market.
"After a series of false starts with vendors who promised but could not deliver, we are delighted to be working with Ubiquisys and Nokia Siemens Networks. Our femtocell solution is ideal for customers in rural locations, especially when combined with our LTE backhaul solution. By delivering leading edge technology, we provide the optimum user experience to our customers," said Rick Vergin, CEO of Mosaic Telecom.
"With Home Cell, Mosaic is delivering tangible customer benefits from a pioneering technology. This deployment provides further evidence of Ubiquisys' innovative credentials and our track record of successful deployments, whether they are residential, enterprise or public space small cells," said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys.
