4G LTE set to drive wireless market
LTE is driving current mobile devices and equipment market and is expected to claim the major share of wireless spending next few years as mobile carriers migrate towards 3GPP based next generation wireless technology.
Having already witnessed over 269 unique device launches, and shipments of over 8 Million units in 2011, the LTE devices ecosystem is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 104 % over the next five years. In 2016, there will be nearly 300 Million LTE device shipments all over the globe, with revenues of over 82 Billion USD, reports Research and Markets.
For mobile infrastructure LTE equipment market, Dell'Oro Group forecasts it to grow at a CAGR of 45% over the next 5 years. LTE macro shipments will drive LTE revenues in the early-to-mid part of the forecast period. Outdoor metro and pico eNode B shipments are expected to exceed macro shipments in 2016. 3GPP RAN technologies are expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% during the forecasting period.
IHS iSuppli report projects global capital spending on LTE technology to reach $24.3 billion in 2013, nearly triple the $8.7 billion of 2012. LTE infrastructure spending in 2015 will rise to $36.1 billion, compared to just $9.0 billion for 3.5G. This rapid growth is expected to allow LTE to overtake 3.5G, which will end its five-year run this year as the dominant category in wireless infrastructure gear spending. In 2013, 3.5G infrastructure technology will generate $19.8 billion in revenue.
