GSA: 1,371 LTE User Devices Launched
GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) confirms that 132 manufacturers have announced 1,371 LTE-enabled user devices, including frequency and carrier variants. The number includes 705 new LTE user devices that were launched in the past year. During same period, the number of manufacturers increased by 52%. Smartphones increased their share to 39% of all LTE device types.
GSA report further confirms that 99% of LTE smartphones are multimode, capable of operating on 3G networks (i.e. HSPA/HSPA+ or EV-DO or TD-SCDMA technologies). 33% of LTE phones can operate on 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ systems.
Majority of devices are designed for FDD mode. 304 products can operate in the LTE TDD (TD-LTE) mode. Over 10% of commercial LTE networks have deployed the LTE TDD mode, according to GSA data published earlier this month.
GSA also has provided details about VoLTE-capable devices. The report confirmed that 42 VoLTE phones.
In FDD, band 79 (2600 MHz) leads with 493 devices while band 3 (1800 MHz) and band 1 (2100 MHz) have 483 devices and 354 devices respectively. In TDD, band 38 (2600 MHz) leads with 215 devices where as band 40 (2300 MHz) and band 41 (2600 MHz) have 207 devices and 81 devices respectively.
