South Korea's operator SK Telecom has successfully commercialized 2G and 3G services through LTE network. Named ‘2G/3G over LTE,’ the technology enhances the stability of 2G/3G mobile networks by utilizing LTE network as backhaul instead of fixed-line 2G/3G infrastructure. 

Mobile operator Telenor has awarded a 5-year contract to Ericsson for multivendor managed services to support Telenor's nationwide network rollout in Myanmar. Late last year, Telenor also signed a frame agreement with Ericsson to supply radio-access network (RAN)

U.S. carrier T-Mobile is now kicking off a major new program to upgrade its 2G/EDGE network with 4G LTE. The company plans to complete 50 percent of the work this year alone, and expects the program to be substantially complete by the middle of next year.

Ericsson has announced that It is installing RBS 6000 multi-standard 2G/3G/4G radio base stations to enhance the user experience in terms of quality and capacity for Orange subscribers along with LTE deployment program.

Russian mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) announced that it has built more than 2,000 LTE base stations in 2012. Operator's 4G LTE network now covers about 90% of the capital and more than fifty settlements near Moscow.

Telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider, ZTE  has signed a packet switched core network (CN) deal with KPN Group Belgium (KPNGB).KPNGB will deploy ZTE’s packet switched CN equipment which supports unified 2G/3G/4G radio access.

Telekom Austria Group has picked Ericsson for its multi-standard radio network upgarde and to supply LTE infrastructure. Ericsson will upgrade the 2G and 3G mobile networks and also provide the LTE technology for Telekom Austria Group's subsidiaries A1 in Austria and Vipnet in Croatia. Rollout has already started.
