Deutsche Telekom, Alcatel-Lucent and Airbus have successfully tested direct data communication using LTE technology, between an aircraft and a wireless network on the ground. When commercial, this solution will be able to provide in-flight mobile voice and broadband data communications services cost-effectively.

Alcatel-Lucent and UAE operator Etisalat have completed a technology trial with Alcatel-Lucent's lightRadio portfolio over a working 4G LTE network. During the trial, Alcatel-Lucent showcased the capabilities of its new 9768 lightRadio Metro Radio Outdoor (MRO) at Etisalat’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, over Etisalat’s commercial 4G LTE network.

Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile have signed a co-creation agreement under which teams from the two companies are conducting joint development and test activities on a series of lightRadio projects at Alcatel-Lucent’s Stuttgart lab. This collaboration will speed the introduction of the lightRadio product prototype to the second half of the year.

Telefonica today introduced live experience of Smart 4G network at the Mobile World Congress. The network deploys 2.6Ghz frequency band and provides download speeds of 100 Mbps, between 40-60Mbps on upload, says operator.

To deliver high quality mobile broadband voice and data services, telecommunications service provider Telenor has selected small cells technology from Alcatel-Lucent. Under a new global frame agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide Telenor with  small cell base stations to support its customers.

Latin American wireless services provider America Movil has selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide infrastructure for its 4G LTE network rollout in Latin America. The deployment will commence with America Movil’s operator Claro commercially launching high-speed mobile broadband services to subscribers in Puerto Rico in the coming weeks.

Uruguay’s communications service provider Antel has rolled out commercial 4G LTE wireless network in country.

The US regional service provider Big River Broadband has selected Alcatel-Lucent to build new 4G regional LTE network.
