UK's telecom regulator Ofcom has released the outcome of the principal stage of its 4G, 5G spectrum auction. EE, Telefónica, Vodafone came out as big winners. Ofcom has been running an auction of spectrum in two frequency bands: 2.3 GHz, which is usable by current 4G mobile and 3.4 GHz, which is one of the spectrum bands earmarked for 5G.
ZTE has successfully completed phase-1 5G transport test in cooperation with Telefonica at its Future Networks Lab in Madrid, Spain. In this test, ZTE provided the new 5G Flexhaul solution, a transport solution integrating fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul features.

Spanish operator Telefonica plans to roll out a nationwide LTE network in Spain and has selected Ericsson as a technology partner for this network. Ericsson is selected as vendor for the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, among others.
Alcatel-Lucent has signed a contract with Telefónica, to become a reference supplier for its 4G LTE network in Spain, company announced today. Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy some 8,000 4G LTE base stations and the 5620 Service Aware Manager (5620 SAM).

Movistar Chile has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to implement its LTE network in 2.6 GHz frequency band. According to company, the contract covers the capital area, Greater Santiago, with close to six million inhabitants, as well as other cities such as Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
UK regulator Ofcom has announced the winners of the 4G mobile spectrum auction today. After more than 50 rounds of bidding, Everything Everywhere Ltd, Hutchison 3G UK Ltd, Niche Spectrum Ventures Ltd (a subsidiary of BT Group plc), Telefónica UK Ltd and Vodafone Ltd have all won spectrum.
Telefónica has demonstrated transfer of voice calls from a LTE network to a 3G mobile network seamlessly and without interruption. According to operator, this handover was achieved in Germany in a test laboratory environment that accurately simulates that of a real mobile network.
