South Korean carriers SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have launched the 5G network that supports 3GPP specifications in limited areas in Seoul and other major cities. 

UK's telecom regulator Ofcom has released the outcome of the principal stage of its 4G, 5G spectrum auction. EE, Telefónica, Vodafone came out as big winners. Ofcom has been running an auction of spectrum in two frequency bands: 2.3 GHz, which is usable by current 4G mobile and 3.4 GHz, which is one of the spectrum bands earmarked for 5G.

Ericsson today announces the launch of the 5G Exchange (5GEx) project. A Phase 1 5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership (5G PPP) research and innovation project, 5GEx aims to enable a unified European 5G infrastructure service market that integrates multiple operators and technologies.

To deliver high quality mobile broadband voice and data services, telecommunications service provider Telenor has selected small cells technology from Alcatel-Lucent. Under a new global frame agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide Telenor with  small cell base stations to support its customers.

Today Verizon Wireless announced that it has launched XLTE in 22 new markets, bringing double the 4G LTE bandwidth and greater peak speeds now in more than 400 markets in USA. That means that 4 out of 5 Verizon Wireless 4G LTE markets now have Verizon Wireless XLTE.
