  • June 29 2012, BELLEVUE, Wash. – 4G Americas reports that in the first quarter of 2012 many milestones were achieved at the billion mark for the wireless industry and 3GPP technologies in particular, according to Informa Telecoms & Media. 

  • South Korean carrier SK Telecom has started using Multi Carrier (MC) technology in its LTE network commercially to offer faster LTE services. Operator plans to cover the whole Seoul area within 2012 and 23 other major cities by early 2013.

  • US Regional carrier C Spire Wireless has selected Alcatel-Lucent to build and deploy the initial phase of its 4G LTE network.

  • Danish Mobile operators TDC, Telia and Telenor joint venture, TT-Netvaerket have won the auction of 800 MHz frequency band. The 800 MHz frequency has a much wider range and useful for broad 4G rollout.

  • Broadband satellite solutions and services provider,  Hughes Network Systems has announced a successful 4G LTE transmissions over satellite backhaul at download speeds of over 10 Mbps and upload speeds of 786 Kbps, including video phone calls.

  • Beijing, China – June 28, 2012, Nokia Siemens Networks has achieved TD-LTE data speeds of 1.3 Gbps using its commercial Flexi base station hardware**.   • June 26th, 2012 – Informa Telecoms & Media today issued its latest quarterly small cell market status report which highlights growing operator interest in public access small cells as well as progress in the femtocell market.

  • Sprint has announced launch of its LTE services in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio on July 15. Sprint plans to add more markets in 2012 that will announced later this year. By the end of 2013, Sprint expects to have largely completed the build out of its all new 4G LTE nationwide network.

  • Oman's telecom services provider Omantel is set to launch its 4G LTE network in the coming few days. According to the company, with the awarding of the LTE network contracts last month by Tender Board, it has now reached a stage where its customers can soon start enjoying 4G LTE services through affordable modems.
