Danish Mobile operators TDC, Telia and Telenor joint venture, TT-Netvaerket have won the auction of 800 MHz frequency band. The 800 MHz frequency has a much wider range and useful for broad 4G rollout. TDC received 2x20 MHz (801-821 MHz and 842-862 MHz) at a license price of DKK 627,804,000 while TT-Netvaerket won 2x10 MHz (791-801 MHz and 832-842 MHz) at a license price of DKK 111,463,000.

Currently TT-Netvaerket has 4G on the 2600 and 1800 MHz frequencies. Now, with access to the 800 MHz frequency TT-Netvaerket can build 4G networks in more sparsely populated areas, says the operator. Telenor and Telia have concluded an agreement to merge their 4G, 3G and 2G mobile networks. The first step will be taken in a few months, when 4G sharing begins. Once Telenor and Telia have established a joint 4G network, coverage will naturally also be the same for both companies – 75 per cent of the population.

According to TDC, together with the frequencies, operator has undertaken to provide coverage in compliance with the rules of the licenses. This means that TDC will safeguard stronger coverage in areas of Denmark currently experiencing patchy coverage. More than 99% of the entire population will have access to 4G technology including both urban and rural areas.
