Clearwire offers WiFi iSpot
Clearwire has introduced a new WiFi hotspot for Apple devices to provide 4G network speeds via WiFi connectivity. Named as Clear iSpot, it is exclusively launched to support Apple's iPad, iPod touch and iPhone.
iSpot users can share 4G speed with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled Apple mobile devices simultaneously. Using Clearwire's WiMAX network mobile device users can experience with a average mobile download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps with bursts over 10 mbps.
iSpot Specifications
- Dimensions: 4.33" x 2.44" x .71"
- Weight: 4.58 oz (130 grams)
- Battery Information: 1830 mAh
- Usage Time: 4 hours of continuous use time
- Range: 150 ft.
Earlier in April, Sprint had lauched a 3G/4G WiFi router named as Overdrive (a WiMAX modem) that connects to 4G broadband wherever the service is offered. Overdrive was targeted to iPad users. Overdrive also has a fail safe mechanism to connect to a 3G network when the device isn’t in a WiMAX market. However iSpot does not seem to be supporting 3G similar to Overdrive.
