The government of India is planning to make 160 MHz of spectrum available next year for telecom operators for deploying broadband wireless access (BWA) services across

3.7 million new BWA/WiMAX subscribers were added in Q4 2010, and 5.5 million will be added throughout 2011, according to the 14th issue of the 4GCounts Quarterly Report

The second half of 2010 in India was abuzz with discussion of several possiblities for BWA licensees regarding whether to deploy TD-LTE, WiMAX, or a hybrid-type network

Qualcomm, which won BWA spectrum for four circles in India at Rs 4,913 crore, is in talks to exit the business. BWA auction took place earlier this year and  concluded in June.

According to the latest 4Gcounts Quarterly Report (Issue 12), the BWA/WiMAX industry could reach up to 13 million subscribers by the end of the year, up from 9 million reported in Q2 2010.

The Indian government will immediately provide broadband spectrum to the six companies that won licences in the recently concluded BWA auctions.
