Ericsson and IBM announced today a collaboration to jointly research phased-array antenna designs for 5G to provide data speeds orders of magnitude faster than what is available currently.

Korea’s telecommunication operator LG Uplus has completed a three-month long trial of its Intelligent Network Platform (INP). Nokia’s radio technology, Liquid Applications and professional services were used in the trial.

Ericsson and Qualcomm have completed inter-company interoperability testing of LTE Category 9 connectivity, with download speeds of up to 450 Mbps. Testing was conducted using Ericsson's LTE-Advanced network infrastructure and QTI's next-generation LTE-Advanced modem.

Alcatel-Lucent is to deploy 4G LTE and IP networking solutions throughout Scandinavia for AINMT Holdings AB. The company will initially roll-out a complete mobile broadband access network for ice.net in Norway, Net 1 in Sweden and Denmark.

South Korea's operator SK Telecom has successfully commercialized 2G and 3G services through LTE network. Named ‘2G/3G over LTE,’ the technology enhances the stability of 2G/3G mobile networks by utilizing LTE network as backhaul instead of fixed-line 2G/3G infrastructure. 

Openwave Mobility today announced that SaskTel, Canada’s service communications provider, has successfully deployed the company’s Smart User Repository (SUR) on its network in order to unify and simplify management of its subscriber data.

AT&T has signed an agreement with Grupo Salinas to acquire Mexican wireless company Iusacell for US$2.5 billion, inclusive of Iusacell debt.

Thailand's telecom operator dtac TriNet has awarded Ericsson a five-year agreement to deliver 4G LTE in several major cities as part of its LTE expansion program on 2100MHz band.

Mobily, Nokia Networks Sign Managed Services and Network Expansion Deal

Saudi Arabia's operator Mobily has commissioned Nokia Networks for managing its network operations for five years. In addition, Nokia Networks will expand the operator’s 2G, 3G, and 4G (TD LTE, FDD LTE) mobile broadband networks.

Voice calling over 3G on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices has dropped sharply across mobile networks in the U.S. and is one-fifth of that on previous iPhone models, as users adopt Voice-over LTE (VoLTE) services, reports Newfield Wireless, a Tektronix Communications company and provider of next-generation Radio Access Network (RAN) geoanalytics.

Telstra today introduced LTE-Advaced service to a range of communities across the nation. Operator is calling new service 4GX.

Verizon and AT&T plan to enable VoLTE- to-VoLTE connections between Verizon Wireless and AT&T customers in 2015. Verizon introduced its Advanced Calling 1.0 services across the United States in September.  AT&T introduced VoLTE services in its initial markets earlier this year, and continues to expand to more markets across the United States.
