Optus plans to roll out 5G technology in Australia by early 2019 with a fixed wireless product in key metro areas. This announcement follows the launch of a successful outdoor trial for 5G New Radio, which showed 2Gbps download speeds using a potential device for a fixed wireless service in the home and business.

Optus is turning on its first commercial 4G LTE 700MHz network in Darwin and Perth CBDs. The launch follows the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) granting Optus an early access commercial licence for 4G 700MHz spectrum.

Australia's Optus and Nokia Solutions and Networks have attained an aggregate downlink of 1.7 gigabits per second (Gbps) from a single site on the operator’s live network using commercially available NSN equipment.

Australia's Optus has successfully begun testing LTE-Advanced by activating the TD-LTE Advanced carrier aggregation. Optus announced it achieved single user peak speeds of over 160 Mbps on its commercial 4G Plus network in early December.

Australian operator Optus has launched LTE network in Wollongong. Optus has switched on LTE at five mobile sites in central Wollongong, kicking off a series of extensive network upgrades and expansions in the greater Illawarra area in the coming six months, which will also include upgrades to the Optus 3G network.

Operator has enabled 4G services at four sites in Surfers Paradise, in readiness for the growing number of holidaymakers travelling with new 4G tablet and handset devices. Australian operator Optus has introduced 4G LTE network in Sydney, Perth and Newcastle and plans to launch LTE services in Melbourne from 15th September, 2012. Optus has also began offering Samsung GALAXY S III 4G to its customers.

Optus has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to modernize its mobile network, refarme the 900 MHz GSM frequency band, and provide infrastructure and services for LTE rollout in Sydney and Perth. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying LTE core to Optus.

Australian mobile service provider Optus has expanded the availability of 4G services utilizing its 4G FDD-LTE network in Sydney and Perth. Optus will have two 4G products available, the Optus 4G USB and the Optus 4G mobile Wi-Fi modem.

Australian carrier Optus has completed acquisition of the Vividwireless Group from Seven Group Holdings (SGH). With up to 98MHz of spectrum in the 2.3GHz band across key population areas, Optus plans to offer high capacity 4G network.

Australian operator Optus has activated its 4G LTE network for select customers across Greater Newcastle, as well as in Port Stephens, the Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie areas.
