Nokia is broadening its focus into multiple areas of early 5G mobility use cases, including enhanced mobile broadband and ultra-reliable, ultra-low latency communications, company announced yesterday.

Magyar Telekom's T-Mobile unit plans to extend the LTE service coverage to suburban parts of Budapest and several country towns this summer. According to the operator, currently it's 4G LTE service is available outdoors for 90% of the population in Budapest and indoors for 73%.

Aviation communications provider SmartSky Networks has started deployment of the airborne 4G LTE-based air-to-ground (ATG) network. Using 60 MHz of spectrum and beamforming technology, SmartSky’s network plans to provide more than 10 times the typical speed and capacity of the current industry standard ATG network, and at a lower cost per bit.

Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to upgrade its nationwide GSM and 3G networks and expand its commercial 4G TD-LTE network. According to company, Nokia Siemens Networks is now responsible for building one-third of STC’s nationwide 4G network.
