U.S. carrier Sprint announced the availability of Sprint Spark in six new markets. The newly added markets are Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Fort Lauderdale. Sprint Spark is designed to accommodate all of Sprint’s spectrum bands on a single device.

Sunrise and Huawei demonstrated  5G performance with download data throughput of 3.28 Gbit/s in the 3.5 GHz (band 42) frequency band at the 5G lab at Sunrise headquarters in Zurich Oerlikon. The operator plans to use the same configuration from 2020.

WiMAX service provider Clearwire is reviewing its funding options from company such as T-Mobile USA or money from a wireless spectrum sale.

T-Mobile more than doubles its LTE Advanced footprint to 920+ markets across USA. In addition, the operator announced Gigabit Class LTE readiness with a combination of three speed-boosting technologies carrier aggregation, 4X4 MIMO and 256 QAM that is available in 430 of those markets.

Latvian Mobile Telephone (LMT) has announced introduction of 4G+ or LTE Advanced to double the data transfer speeds on mobile phones and router. Operator is offering 4G+ with utilization of two communication frequencies.

Cellular base station architectures are shifting from traditional macrocells to distributed base stations and toward the growing use of small cell base stations. Number of LTE small cells shipments will surpass the number of LTE macrocells as early as 2014, predicts ABI Research. Company estimates that  127,000 LTE small cells would be sold against 113,000 by 2014.

Telstra today introduced LTE-Advaced service to a range of communities across the nation. Operator is calling new service 4GX.
