SK Telecom's newly developed fronthaul of 5G network technology was adopted as a Korean national standard by the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), the operator has announced today. 

A group of 16 leading players in the field of telecommunications are joining forces to advance the development of a new air interface below 6 GHz for 5G networks under the project named “FANTASTIC-5G” (Flexible Air iNTerfAce for Scalable service delivery wiThin wIreless Communication networks of the 5th Generation). 

Verizon plans to deliver 5G pre-commercial services to select customers in 11 markets throughout the country on its newly built 5G network.

Deutsche Telekom is showing LTE technology in action at IFA 2010. Visitors to the stand can try out the 4G technology for themselves in a showcase and discover its advantages.

SK Telecom has completed the deployment of LTE Cat-M1 technology for IoT applications on commercial LTE base stations in collaboration with Ericsson and Qualcomm. LTE Cat-M1 is expected to lower manufacturing costs of IoT devices as its communications modules are much cost-effective than their counterparts for LTE-M, bringing more companies into an ecosystem for IoT business.

U.S. carrier T-Mobile has launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service in the Seattle area. Operator is initially offering VoLTE service over existing LG G Flex and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Light devices.
