Deutsche Telekom showcases LTE at IFA
Deutsche Telekom is showing LTE technology in action at IFA 2010. Visitors to the stand can try out the 4G technology for themselves in a showcase and discover its advantages. Deutsche Telekom will also demonstrate the mobile communications technology for connected life in the gigabit society live via video link between the IFA stand and a moving car in Bonn.
Deutsche Telekom’s technology partners Huawei and Samsung are providing support in the execution of the showcase. Huawei is involved in setting up the network infrastructure, while Samsung supplies the USB sticks.
At the IFA, Deutsche Telekom is also unveiling its new product - "Call & Surf Comfort via radio" - which will provide broadband coverage in areas that currently have no broadband access. A newly developed router will be used for stationary applications of this kind.
By the end of 2010, Deutsche Telekom plans to bring fast Internet access to over 1,000 locations (the "gaps" on the map) that currently have no broadband access. Of those, some 500 locations will receive 4G LTE service, while the others will receive different mobile or fixed-network technologies such as UMTS or DSL. In 2011, the company plans to use 4G to eliminate an additional 1,000 "gaps".
