China Mobile will invest $225 million to establish TD-LTE trial networks in six cities. Operator will install a total of 3,060 base stations. 

Apple today launched the third generation iPad with new set of features that include Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics, a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics and 4G LTE support. iPad Wi-Fi + 4G with built-in next generation LTE capability also supports HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA.

UK carrier EE has launched 4G LTE network in a further 18 towns across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. Less than two years since launch, 4G from EE now covers over 75% of the population across 281 large towns and cities and more than 2,500 villages and small towns.

Nokia Siemens Networks has won a five-year deal from The Telekom Austria Group (TAG) to deploy high-quality mobile broadband services and network performance systems. 

Australian carrier Optus has reached an agreement to acquire Vividwireless Group which operates under the vividwireless and unwired brands for A$230 million cash.

Sprint is building 4G LTE network in 28 additional cities within its nationwide 3G footprint and plans to launch LTE services in these markets in coming months. During the pre-launch phase, Sprint customers with capable devices may begin to see 4G LTE coverage in these areas and can use the network even before it officially launches. 

Philippines’ wireless services provider Smart Communications is launching commercial LTE services on August 25. The announcement comes after a year of LTE test deployments conducted by PLDT’s wireless subsidiary in various parts of the country.
