Bulgarian telecom operator Max Telecom has picked Nokia Siemens Networks as the main vendor to provide equipment for its LTE network. Operator plans to launch LTE mobile internet services in Q4 2013.

Mitsubishi Electric and NTT DOCOMO have demonstrated 5G 27Gbps and 25Gbps maximum throughputs via one mobile terminal over communication distances of 10m and 100m, respectively, using the 28GHz radio frequency. 

Singapore’s telecom operator SingTel has announced the launch of 4G mobile broadband service in country to offer speeds of up to 150Mbps. SingTel is offering new monthly Mobile Broadband 150  price plan at $59.90/month for 5GB data plan. 

Nokia and the Saudi Telecom Company (STC) have conducted a test of MulteFire technology, which combines the high-performance of LTE with the simplicity of Wi-Fi deployment in unlicensed spectrum bands such as 5GHz.

In 2014, standalone 4G LTE femtocells will have greater presence in the market following the general development of the LTE market, but the key player is expected to be 3G/LTE multimode.

Ericsson and Qualcomm have completed a non-standalone (NSA) 5G New Radio (NR) data call on 2.6 GHz, adding a new frequency band to those successfully tested for commercial deployment. The bi-directional downlink and uplink data call was made at the Ericsson Lab in Kista, Sweden last December 20.

Market research firm Infonetics Research expects global femtocell revenue nearly to double this year while unit shipments grow at nearly 140% compared to 2011.
