Airvana Participates in Inaugural Femto Forum UMTS Femtocell Plugfest
March 30, 2010 - Airvana today announced the company's successful participation in the "1st Femto Forum UMTS Femtocell Plugfest" which took place earlier this month. At the Plugfest, Airvana conducted interoperability testing between its Iuh-compliant HubBubâ„¢ femtocell and multiple femtocell network gateways and security gateways.
Coordinated by ETSI Plugtestsâ„¢ and sponsored by the Femto Forum, the Femtocell Plugfest consisted of interoperability tests between femtocell network gateways, security gateways, femtocell access points and chipsets from industry vendors to showcase the effectiveness of 3GPP's Iuh interface. Moreover, the program also demonstrated how the IPsec/IKEv2 security protocols are being implemented to allow femtocells to communicate over the public Internet to system operators' core networks in a highly secure manner. Iuh interface standardization was completed in April 2009 and provides the crucial interface between femtocell access points and femtocell network gateways in the core network.
In addition to participation in the ETSI Plugfest, Airvana's commitment to 3GPP femtocell standards includes previously-announced Iuh interoperability agreements and active participation in standards bodies and the Femto Forum industry organization.
"The pervasive deployment of femtocells relies upon proven interoperability and secure operation of these devices as part of a comprehensive ecosystem," explained Sanjeev Verma, vice president, Femtocell Business and Corporate Development, Airvana. "Our company has been a strong supporter of, and active participant in the development of the standards driving the industry forward. Participation in the Plugfest helps to highlight our successful implementation of the standards."
