Cavium Networks Introduces Comprehensive, Market Leading LTE eNodeB and Packet Core Solutions using OCTEON at 2010 Mobile World Congress
February 16, 2010 –Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking and wireless applications today announced a broad range of market-leading LTE (Long Term Evolution) eNodeB and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) solutions that are being demonstrated at the 2010 Mobile World Congress. These solutions have been developed in conjunction with several major partners including Picochip, Continuous Computing (Trillium) and Tata Elxsi, and have been optimized for Cavium’s OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processors. Additionally, Cavium is showcasing the newly introduced Cavium DPI Software Toolkit which offers industry’s highest DPI performance necessary for Evolved Packet Core applications. The OCTEON wireless processors have been widely adopted in 3G, WiMAX and LTE infrastructure equipment including LTE Base Stations (eNodeBs) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) devices, 3G Base stations, Cell Site Aggregators, Radio Network Controllers (RNC), xGSNs, Femtocells, Femto Gateways, WiMax base stations and ASN Gateways.
Cavium Networks will be displaying its products and the solutions in Hall 2, stand 2C05 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from February 15th – 18th, 2010. As demand in Mobile Networks is skyrocketing, carriers are focused on lowering the capital cost for increased internet traffic by reducing existing site cost, minimize number of new sites, lowering energy consumption and deploying lower cost equipment. Additionally, LTE mandates very high signaling capacity, subscriber density and data throughput, better security and DPI (Deep Packet Inspection). OCTEON processors addresses all of these requirements by offering leading performance and compelling integration including control processing, MAC layer acceleration, packet processing, DPI Routing, security processing at very low power. OCTEON also enables equipment manufacturers to achieve dramatic reduction in form factor by implementing Macro BTS in a 1U or 2U size, and RNC/Gateway in 4U size instead of large telecom shelfs. 3G/4G wireless COTS solutions are available from Cavium Networks and partners including Aricent, CCPU, D2 Technologies, Emerson, GE Fanuc, Interphase, Kontron, MontaVista, picoChip, RadiSys, Tata Elxsi, Wind River and others.
Cavium Networks will be demonstrating multiple market leading LTE solutions based on OCTEON in Hall 2 stand 2C05:
- eNodeB: Complete LTE small cell eNodeB MicroTCA reference design including PHY, MAC layer, PDCP, Control, RLC and Transport layer using picoChip PHY, CCPU Trilium Software L2-L7 stack running on OCTEON Processor
- eNodeB: Complete LTE micro eNodeB MicroTCA reference design including PHY, MAC layer, PDCP, Control, RLC and Transport layer using TI DSP PHY, Tata Elxsi Software L2-L7 stack running on OCTEON Processor
- LTE ePC/3G: Best-In-Class > 10Gbps DPI Application Software solution from Cavium Networks
- SNOW 3G: High Performance LTE SNOW 3G Reference Software Stack from Cavium Networks
The OCTEON processor family is the industry’s broadest and highest performance Multi-core MIPS64 based processor family with price points that address application performance ranging from 1Gbps to 40Gbps. The OCTEON processor family consists of processors with 1 to 32 cores on a single chip with integrated networking interfaces with industry leading hardware acceleration for packet processing, quality of service, TCP, Security, compression / decompression and DPI. OCTEON processors’ powerful control plane capability along with its advanced hardware accelerators have enabled telecom equipment manufacturers to introduce and deploy market leading, robust, low cost and low power Base stations to Gateways.
