Clear Mobitel Wins Ofcom 2600MHz LTE Spectrum License for Jersey
Clear Mobitel has been granted a license by Ofcom to operate LTE mobile broadband services in Jersey. The service provider will begin work in the late autumn to trial 4G LTE broadband network in Jersey.
Jersey Competition and Regulatory Authority (JCRA) Chief Executive Chuck Webb commented, "The JCRA has been informed by Ofcom that it has granted Clear Mobitel (Jersey) Ltd (CMJ) a licence to test and develop fourth generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio infrastructure in the 2600 MHz band in Jersey. Ofcom's licence is based on a recommendation for spectrum in Jersey's 2600 MHz band the JCRA made last year, after a public consultation and based on proposals put forth by various operators".
"On the strength of the JCRA board’s decision to make its final recommendation, Clear Mobitel (Jersey) Ltd has already made multi-million pound investments in the smart technologies that are at the very heart of advanced services that will be delivered by the Jersey 4G LTE network. We have been consistent in our view that since the award of our license by the JCRA last year that delivering such an advanced, separated network in Jersey would deliver strong new competition to the existing market, in terms of overall retail pricing and services innovation," said Andrew Elston, the company’s Regulatory Affairs Director.
In July Clear Mobitel had announced a live LTE trial in the 800MHz Digital Dividend spectrum in a zone which is centered on the Caradon Hill area of East Cornwall.
