Switzerland's telecom service provider Swisscom has launched LTE pilot project in seven tourist areas. For this service, users require an LTE-enabled USB modem and the relevant subscriptions.

The seven-day offer costs CHF 19 and is aimed at holidaymakers, for example, who want to try out LTE. Customers who want to use LTE for longer are advised to opt for the monthly offer for CHF 60. Both offers include unlimited data volumes for mobile surfing at the LTE sites.

The Swiss tourist areas equipped with LTE are Davos, Grindelwald, Gstaad, Leukerbad, Montana, Saas Fee and St. Moritz/Celerina. From 31 January 2012, 11 Swisscom Shops will be equipped with LTE in the larger towns and cities in Switzerland, and at these locations interested customers will have the opportunity to try LTE for free.

The pilot project is scheduled to run from the start of December 2011 until mid-2012. Swisscom intends to test the LTE network under real conditions and gather experience in order to be able to best deploy LTE in Switzerland.
