Verizon Wireless to Complete LTE Rollout by Mid-2013
Verizon Wireless is aiming to complete its 4G LTE network rollout by mid-2013, announced Fran Shammo, Verizon's EVP & CFO, at Wells Fargo Technology Media & Telecom Conference last week. Verizon Wireless had earlier said that by 2013 the LTE coverage map will match it's current 3G coverage map.
"Our lead on 4G LTE and the footprint that we cover and the reliability that our reputation has been built on, I think word-of-mouth is spreading that we have the superior network from a reliability standpoint. And that the 4G LTE in our coverage is -- I think we say that we have more covers than all of our competitors combined. So we will have completed this build by mid-2013" he said.
Further he added that today Verizon's LTE network is extremely stable, it is performing very well. 35% of Verizon's data traffic is now carried over that 4G LTE network
Verizon Wireless is currently offering LTE services in 419 markets to more than 250 million people throughout the United States. Last month, company surpassed its goal of covering 400 markets across the United States by the end of 2012 with the launch of 23 new markets.
