Samsung has been selected by Japan’s telecom operator KDDI to supply LTE solutions. KDDI plans to launch a commercial LTE service in 2012.

Samsung aims to introduce optimized LTE solution for hotspots in extremely dense user areas that require higher capacity mobile broadband, whilst simultaneously improving service quality in weak-signal areas.

"As a long-term partner of KDDI, we’re very pleased to support them in establishing a new chapter of mobile communication in Japan. It’s a cornerstone for today’s achievement that Samsung has always focused on providing solution for improving operators’ and end-users’ satisfaction since we entered into the telecommunication systems business. We’ll make constant efforts to provide more countries with our cutting-edge LTE solutions." said Mr. Youngky Kim, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telecommunication Systems Business of Samsung Electronics

Samsung has cooperated with KDDI to provide commercial CDMA systems since 2002. Through offering Mobile WiMAX solution to UQ Communications, an affiliated company of KDDI for mobile broadband services, Samsung and KDDI has strengthened their strategic partnership from 2008.

As per company statement, Samsung has successfully won 8 commercial LTE contracts and partnered with more than 30 global operators so far.
