MetroPCS Reaffirms LTE Readiness as Q2 Profit Triples

MetroPCS has reported more than three times increase in second-quarter earnings also company saw record subscriber additions.Net income rose to $80 million from $26 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 18 percent to $1.01 billion.

Company reaffirmed its readiness to launch LTE in second half of this year as MetroPCS announced net subscriber growth of approximately 1.4 million subscribers over the past 12 months.

In a press release Chairman, President and CEO of MetroPCS, Roger D. Linquist said, "We continue to build our 4G LTE network, and we are currently testing in selected metropolitan areas. We are on track for our initial 4G LTE launch in selected metropolitan areas in the second half of this year. Our goal is to provide our pay-in-advance subscribers a 4G experience equivalent to that which will be enjoyed by traditional post-pay customers."

MetroPCS already has announced to  initially deploy a commercial LTE network in various metropolitan markets, including the Las Vegas metropolitan area with Samsung Mobile LTE network products. Samsung SCH-r900 with LTE capabilities in 1700 / 1900 radio bands has been already approved by FCC and expected to be launched by MetroPCS later this year.
