TeliaSonera gearing up for LTE launch in Gothenburg, Sweden

TeliaSonera is preparing for commercial launch of 4G/LTE in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city soon. TeliaSonera has already announced to launch LTE in Visby, Sweden on June 30, which would become the third city in the world with commercial 4G network.  

LTE launch in Gothenburg was already expected in Q3,2010 time frame along with Lund, Västerås, Malmö, Uppsala and Linköping.

According to Nokia Siemens Networks, TeliaSonera´s Swedish subsidiary Telia is gearing up to launch 4G/LTE services in Gothenburg using It's Flexi Multiradio Base Station. 

So far Radio network used by TeliaSonera for Sweden LTE launch were supplied by Ericsson. The Stockholm 4G city network is supplied by Ericsson and Radio network in Visby supplied by Ericsson as well.

“The demand for ultra high-speed mobile broadband is significantly increasing in Sweden, and after TeliaSonera´s world premiere last year with 4G services, we are now continuing a fast roll out in Sweden. Nokia Siemens Networks, as one of two LTE vendors, is now providing the radio network in Sweden’s second largest city,” said Erik Hallberg, senior vice president and head of Mobility Services Sweden in TeliaSonera.

“We have a long relationship with TeliaSonera both globally and in Sweden and are happy to be a technology partner in providing 4G/LTE services,” said Jan Lindgren, head of the TeliaSonera team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “4G/LTE will bring a new era in mobile broadband where customers can feel the difference in speed and quality, whether they use a laptop or a smartphone to access content or applications.”
