TeliaSonera opens LTE network in Malmo & Gothenburg

Earlier this week TeliaSonera opened LTE network in Malmo & Gothenburg, Sweden. The first LTE base station is now running in the West Harbour and further expansion is under way in central Malmo to launch in the third quarter of this year.

In Q3,2010 time frame, TeliaSonera is expected to launch LTE in Gothenburg, Lund, Västerås, Malmö, Uppsala and Linköping cities.

The network would open to customers in the third quarter and will then cover the major parts of central Malmö. It will be progressively expanded. In the radio network supplied by Ericsson Malmo.

Already today, customers can sign up for a subscription for mobile broadband that can be upgraded to 4G when the sale starts on site, says Telia.

According to Erik Hallberg, head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera Sweden, This surreptitious opening is a foretaste of what is to come in Gothenburg during the third quarter, then we hope that as many as possible will take the chance and try out all the options available with super-fast mobile broadband.

Nokia Siemens Networks had earler said that TeliaSonera´s Swedish subsidiary Telia is gearing up to launch 4G/LTE services soon in Gothenburg using It's Flexi Multiradio Base Station.

Telia will build out 4G network in 25 locations in Sweden before year-end, from LuleÃ¥ in the north to Lund in the south. Telia launched the world's first 4G network in Stockholm at the end of last year when even the Oslo got its network.
