Telenor Hungary has awarded a Hungarian GSM/UMTS/ LTE network construction contract to ZTE. A 200 million euro ($254 million) contract was announced today.

ZTE plans to help Telenor Hungary roll out a unified second generation, third generation and long term evolution network, supporting multi-band wireless services, according to a company statement.

"This technology eliminates the need for further infrastructure upgrades, providing the operator with the flexibility to roll out new services..." ZTE said in the statement.

"As part of our vision of a Digital Hungary, we predict a growing need for simple-to-use, value-for-money mobile communications services across Hungary, especially mobile broadband and we now see that the time has come to switch to the next gear and take the lead in providing even faster and even more reliable services to our customers," said Anders Jensen, Telenor's chief executive officer of Hungary, in a press release.

The contract runs until 2015. In the first phase of the project, the network elements of the exchange to take place within two years. For the next five years ZTE will deliver the underlying infrastructure & Radio including the End-to-End and Uni-RAN solutions. ZTE will build 6,000 base stations across the country, as part of a unified 2G, 3G and LTE rollout.
