TeliaSonera expands LTE coverage, over 200 locations in 2011
TeliaSonera’s Swedish subsidiary, Telia has commercially launched LTE services in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city. Under a contract signed in January 2010, Nokia Siemens Networks has supplied its radio equipment for the operator’s LTE roll out in the city.
During the pre-launch tests performed by TeliaSonera and Nokia Siemens Networks, average downlink rates of 85-90 Mbps were measured, peaking at 100Mbps and in the uplink, 30 Mbps were measured.
In 2011, TeliaSonera plans to deploy 4G in more than 200 towns and cities in Sweden. This includes a major investment in resorts in Bohuslän and archipelago, and several communities on Oland and Gotland.
"We are strengthening and are now increasing the capacity of our network to meet customers' communications needs, and not least the ever-increasing appetite for bandwidth. With our expansion plan for 4G with a total of 218 locations during 2011, an increasing number of Swedes the possibility to surf smart with the fastest mobile broadband in Sweden, "says Erik Hallberg, head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera.
In December 2009 TeliaSonera became the first in the world to launch LTE and are now building out 4G network in a fast pace. In Visby, the network was opened at the end of June 2010 a. By the end of 2010, 25 locations around Sweden are planned for LTE services.
