Telecom Italia
Telecom Italia is the largest Italian telecommunications company and offers infrastructures and technological platforms. Telecom Italia’s domestic leadership - 16.1 million retail network connections, 7 million retail broadband accesses, 30.8 million mobile lines.
The Telecom Italia Group is present in Brazil with TIM Brasil and is one of the major local operators in Germany and the Netherlands through the subsidiaries Hansenet and BBNed respectively. TIM Brasil, with 37.8 million lines in mid-2009, is one of the major operators and is widely known in the country. TIM Brasil offers services using UMTS, GSM and TDMA technology.
Telecom Italia has been doing LTE trials since sometime. Last year Telecom Italia & Huawei completed of a joint LTE test using 14 LTE cells on the existing mobile broadband infrastructure in Turin. The test successfully showcased a downlink speed of over 140Mb/s per cell, demonstrated by three simultaneous connections.
Earlier this year Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Telecom Italia (TI) to engage in a new technology development program, including a trial of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband technology.
