China Mobile the world's top mobile carrier is expected to roll out a state-of-the-art mobile network based on new LTE technology as soon as 2011.
China Mobile Ltd plans to test its TD-LTE networks in three coastal cities first, namely Qingdao, Xiamen, and Zhuhai, in the second half of 2010.
By the end of last year, China Mobile had a total of 522 million mobile phone subscribers, with more than 550,000 base stations and enjoyed a market share of approximately 70.6% in Mainland China. Its TD-SCDMA 3G network has covered 238 cities. And the number of its TD-SCDMA users has topped 3.41 million.
Huawei and Motorola have worked with China Mobile to get a time-duplexed LTE network deployed at the Shanghai Expo. China Mobile selected Sequans to provide TD-LTE chips and USB dongles for the TD-LTE demonstration network at the World Expo 2010.
China Mobile had partnered with Nokia Siemens Networks to demonstrate a TD-LTE femtocell, ensuring decent indoor coverage for the 4G networking platform.
